According to reports, India will ban Chinese CCTV cameras from April 1. The move includes companies like Hikvision and Dahua. New certification rules focus on strict security and compliance standards. The decision aims to strengthen domestic security systems.

India is planning to restrict or ban the use of Chinese-made CCTV cameras due to rising national security concerns. The move is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen cybersecurity infrastructure and reduce dependence on foreign surveillance technology that may pose potential risks to sensitive data.

Authorities have expressed concerns that certain imported CCTV systems may transmit data to foreign servers, creating vulnerabilities in critical sectors such as government offices, defence installations, public infrastructure, and private enterprises. As a result, the government is encouraging the adoption of trusted and locally manufactured surveillance equipment under initiatives like Make in India and Digital India.

Several government departments and public sector organizations are already reviewing their surveillance systems to ensure compliance with new security guidelines. Experts believe that the shift will boost domestic electronics manufacturing and promote indigenous innovation in the security technology sector.

The possible ban may significantly impact the Indian CCTV market, as Chinese brands currently hold a large share due to competitive pricing. However, Indian manufacturers are expected to fill the gap with secure and compliant alternatives.

This decision reflects India’s growing focus on data protection, national security, and technological self-reliance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday emphasised the importance of self-reliance in India’s technological future, stating that “Developed India will be built only when India is self-reliant. For this, Made in India chip is very important.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s growing semiconductor ambitions, noting that "India has so far approved 10 semiconductor fabrication and packaging projects under its Semiconductor Mission," adding that "four of these units are set to commence production very soon."

Addressing the virtual ceremony to lay the foundation stone of India Chip Pvt Ltd — a joint venture between the HCL Group and Foxconn — PM Modi noted that the global shortage of semiconductor chips during the Covid-19 pandemic had disrupted economies and halted production in factories worldwide.

To avoid data leakage india seems to build its own Semi conductor so with this vision of self sustained development of chips by india on it's own it may ban chinese CCTV.

It's seen only as a precautionary measure taken by Indian Government Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Rule.
